How to Choose the right Cheerleading Shoes: A guide for Beginners

Is your child starting cheerleading and you’re not sure what they’ll need for training? One of the most important things you’ll face right at the beginning is choosing the right shoes. You might consider using regular sneakers they already have at home – but when it comes to cheerleading, footwear is a key element for both safety and comfort. In this article, we’ll explain why, what to look out for, and how to pick shoes that support healthy and joyful training.

Why aren't regular sneakers enough?

Cheerleading is not just “jumping around.” It’s a team sport that combines dance, acrobatics, and lifts (known as stunts).

WHAT EXACTLY KIDS DO IN CHEERLEADING?

  • jump a lot
  • land on the floor
  • balance on their hands and on other kid's shoulders
  • old themselves in unstable positions

Shoes therefore need to be lightweight, sturdy, and provide safe support. Regular sneakers are often too heavy, too stiff, and have thick soles that restrict the natural movement of the foot.

What Shoes are ideal for Cheerleading?

The right cheerleading shoes have several specific features:

  • Lightweight – so jumping is easy and the foot can move naturally.
  • Flexible sole – for safe landings and smooth movements.
  • Soft yet sturdy texture – shoes should feel comfortable to hold and provide enough space for the toes.
  • Solid color, usually white – to match uniforms and look aesthetically pleasing in competitions.
  • Good ventilation – because kids sweat a lot during training.

Why is it worth investing in the right shoes from the start?

  • Safety: The proper sole absorbs impact and protects joints and ankles.
  • Comfort: Your child won't feel weighed down and can focus on movement.
  • Team Appearance: White shoes look professional and create a cohesive team look.
  • Durability: Quality shoes last the entire season, and sometimes even longer.

What to watch Out for When Buying?

  • Correct size – shoes shouldn’t be too big (they slip) or too tight (they hurt during landings).

  • Always try them on with the socks your child will train in.

  • Keep in mind that the shoe will slightly adjust to the foot during training.

Expensive Shoes ≠ The Right Shoes

At first glance, it might seem like we want you to buy only high-end shoes worth several thousand crowns, such as Nfinity models. These shoes have excellent features, but for beginners or children whose feet grow quickly, it can be an unnecessary investment. Expensive shoes don’t automatically mean they are the best choice for your child.

That’s why we also offer more affordable options, such as the Spirit Motion model, which meets all the essential cheerleading shoe requirements and is ideal for the first seasons. If you decide on another, cheaper shoe, always make sure it meets the key criteria – lightweight, flexible, secure grip, and safe.

How to choose the right shoe size

The right size is key to both comfort and safety during training. That’s why we always recommend measuring the foot accurately first – simply trace the foot on a piece of paper, mark the heel and the longest toe, and measure the distance between them. In our e-shop, sizes are given in centimeters, so it’s easy to find the right fit even for American models with different sizing.

Remember, toes should have enough space in the front so the foot can develop healthily and nothing feels cramped. If you’re buying shoes for a child, consider choosing half a size or a full size larger and optionally use insoles – this will make the shoes last longer and protect the child’s feet. If you’re still unsure, we’re happy to exchange an unworn pair for a different size.

The right shoes are not an unnecessary luxury, but an essential part of every athlete’s gear. They help your child train safely, comfortably, and with joy. And it’s that joy of movement that makes cheerleading so special.
